The diploma course given was very well laid out, thorough, detailed yet easy to follow. The support provided afterwards when I started looking for a teaching job was excellent. And very rewarding. I was assisted in finding jobs in China. I am delighted I went through ATA TESOL College.
I decided that if we were going to travel then I may as well earn a living doing it. I decided to go all out and do the Advanced Diploma in TESOL. I only really had two preferences, Vietnam or China. China turned out to be the better option for us as a married couple.
I sent one email enquiry to a company in Chengdu which was advertised on the ATA Website. They were so impressed by my qualifications they wanted me to come straight away.
The Chinese people are very kind and friendly. Being able to speak and understand each other’s language is irrelevant. If we have any problems there are numerous phone translation apps to assist. We have now been here 7 months and we both say that this is the best thing we have ever done.
I would totally recommend it to anyone. Don’t think too hard or long about it, just do it, you will never look back, and your life will be much richer for the experience. I am so grateful to Marie and her staff at ATA Brisbane for all the help and assistance they have given me, and always being so positive about taking the plunge into the unknown.
My name is Kathryn. I completed a TESOL course with ATA after my friend recommended it to me and I’ve never looked back since! ATA set me up with the basic skills and certification needed to start off my career in ESL teaching.
Since my journey began I have been to many cities in China and neighbouring countries. I am living the TESOL English teachers travelling dream thanks to the Australian Training Academy.
I have completed my certification through correspondence cause with ATA and with the excellent help that I gained from Marie.
Thanks ATA. I’m now in my second posting in China. I had no problems finding a job here with my ATA TESOL Certificate in hand.
I must say though that the help I received from the staff was incredible, especially Grace, who helped me make sense of some of the questions and understand what sort of answers they were looking for, she never told me the answers, but her help and patience allowed me to find the answers and complete all of my electives in a very, very short time.
Steve is one of our former students and also an ATA trainer in South Australia. At the moment he is enjoying himself immensely teaching at He Xi Uninversity in Zhangye as part of the Australian Volunteers for International Development Program.
Doing the TESOL course has opened up such a great travel experience, particularly teaching in China.I could not get a recruiter to get me a teaching position because of my age (being a young 69 years old), so went there in the hope of finding one myself.
English teaching in China is a multibillion dollar industry. While teaching in China, I have visited many places around China and escape the winter visiting the Phillipines and Thailand.
I have a job teaching at a very large High School in Inner Mongolia. I have free accommodation – good monthly salary – 20 hour work week. Hope everything is going well at ATA and thanksagain for helping me to see the world the best way possible.
After much thought and consideration, I decided NOW was the time to explore the world and experience a new culture. I finally decided on studying TESOL through ATA...
I’ma fairly recent graduate at ATA. I’ve found a job in Hangzhou, China…and wanted to thank you all for being a part of getting me here, as I’m loving it!
Just wanted to thank you and the ATA TESOL staff for all your help and support. But mainly I would like to give my testimonial as to how good being an English Teacher is.
It’s hard to believe now that I worked for 12 years in South Australia’s kitchens, I thought there was no escape from the rut I was in.
Much of what I learned in the TESOL course has come in very useful, particularly lists of websites for resources! I am given no resources at all by the tertiary college here, so each lesson requires a fair bit of planning. This is not detracting from my enjoyment of being here, or my satisfaction in the classroom by any means.
The course provided me with valuable information, such as how to identify what TESOL level the students might be working at, how to use realia [whatever happens to be easily available e.g. flowers for colour lessons], how to plan lessons according to the time allocated, what methods are used to keep focus and interest, and how to reinforce the learning. Also, what topics might be appropriate and why, and so much more.
In April 2003 I studied for my TESOL certificate at ATA TESOL College which was then located under the Story Bridge. Immediately after finishing my TESOL certificate I received 70 job offers from around the world and decided to accept one at an English training Centre in Guangzhou in the South of China.
I live in the place I want (a small village in the mountains) and frequently – I have been to places that most people, including Japanese, do not know about!
Over a year ago I was offered a position to establish a kindergarten, and also teach for university, which I took and still do today, with a lot of other freelance work, like give talks, judge speech contests, speaking exams and many other things.

My husband and I went to Slovenia to teach after having applied for a job online. We had done the TESOL course with ATA in Brisbane and wanted to make use of it. We found this teaching job and applied. I was accepted immediately after a Skype interview.
